Littlechild to Defend his NSW Youth Championship Optimist Open Title

by Stacey French

The countdown is on for the 2016 New South Wales Youth Championships and Ryan Littlechild is looking forward to coming back to defend his 2015 championship title.

Fresh from competing at the World Optimist Championships in Portugal, 2015 NSW Youth Optimist Open Champion, Littlechild is preparing to once again take on the waters at Georges River Sailing Club.

Last year Littlechild narrowly defeated Archie Cropley and Otto Henry by one point.

“Conditions can be choppy at Georges River and a moderate sea breeze usually picks up in the afternoon,” Littlechild said when asked about the sometimes challenging conditions.

“There is usually a light breeze in the morning but my biggest tip would be to watch the tide.”

Littlechild finished seventeenth over all at the 2016 World Optimist Championships and attributes much of his success over the past 12 months to working hard and always giving 100 percent.

“It was one of my goals this year to represent Australia and I have achieve this by being part of the Australian Optimist Sailing Team and representing Australia at the World Championship,” Littlechild said.

The 2016 NSW Youth Championships are shaping up to be hotly contested and are set to provide competitors and their families with as much entertainment onshore as afloat with sponsors stalls and a photo booth all taking shape.
