Victorian dynamic duo in the 420, Laura Harding and Eleanor Grimshaw, look forward to rounding out a highly successful 2016/17 season by competing in the Club Marine Victorian Junior and Youth Championships next week.

Following a series of successes including finishing second female team at the Australian 420 Nationals, winning the Girls Youth Division at the Australian Youth Championships and gaining selection for the Australian Youth Sailing Team, the pair have had a short break and look to return in full force for this event. Skipper, Laura Harding, said,

“We’re very excited to be the only Victorian team selected to represent Australia at the Youth Worlds this year! We’re looking forward to travelling overseas, meeting new people and getting experience in all different conditions and this regatta will help with our training for that. We’ve started back with our training 3 – 4 times a week on the water and look forward to competing at this event. There should be great competition this year as there are some fresh new faces in the class who have had time to train and improve so we’re looking forward to it!”

Next week’s Youth State Championships, hosted by Royal Brighton Yacht Club (RBYC), will include a coaching clinic from 4 – 6 April and the championships from 8 – 9 April.

Regional Manager for Victoria, Gavin Wall, looks forward to forward to showcasing this event at RBYC’s new facilities. Gavin said,

“Royal Brighton Yacht Club is a fantastic place to sail with regular sea breezes and great launching facilities. This regatta will be a great opportunity for Victoria’s junior and youth to work with some of the State’s best coaches in the 3 day clinic leading into the Championships regatta. The event comes at a good time with RBYC recently refurbishing their Club with a new restaurant, outdoor dining area and rigging lawn – this will be a superb base for this year’s event. We also look forward to having Club Marine Insurance join us again in sponsoring this premier youth sailing event.”

This event serves as one of the last major events on the Victorian 2016/ 217 calendar and a precursor to the 2018 Australian Youth Championships held in Queensland next year. For the Nacra 15 class, of which there are 3 entries at this event, they will be using this regatta to prepare for the Australian Youth Championships – Nacra 15 event held from the 14 – 17 April in Wangi.

Entries for the Club Marine Victorian Junior and Youth Championships close this Friday, 31 March 2017; entries will still be accepted until the regatta begins with an additional $50 late fee. For more information and to register for this event please click here.
